1.Purpose of Establishment

It is said that the technology development of the aircraft industries will accomplish the enhancement of the technological development potentialities in the airframe/engine manufacturers and the related industries such as component/material makers and furthermore, the outcome of the technology development will provide the increasing effects to the different kind of other industries.

Since the development and production of YS-11's, the first developed civil aircraft in Japan, the Japanese civil aircraft industries have been participating in the development and the production of YX/767, a large scale of international joint collaboration of V2500 engine, CF34-8/10 engine and B777 aircraft. Throughout these collaboration, they have enjoyed the international reputation. Even in the future, it is considered to be preferable to positively continue to accumulate more experiences in the field of the various component developments, sales and product support as well as the participation in the international joint development and production.

However, judging from that it will be necessary to fulfill the optimum investment of the financial resources, as the development of the aircraft and the related components involves a great amount of risks, it was suggested to establish an organization for promoting the international collaboration for aircraft industries. As a result, it was decided to settle the system for making the effective financial support to the international collaborative joint project through this organization.

The purpose of International Aircraft Development Fund (So-called IADF), a nonprofit organization, is to supply the financial support to the Japanese projectors who execute the international collaboration for the civil aircraft/engine, additionally making promotion for the Japanese aircraft industries and to promote the enhancement of the industrial technology and evolution of the international personal exchange, through the execution of promotion of the international collaboration.

5.Projects under Loan from IADF

(1)

YXX, Next Generation Medium Size Civil Aircraft Development Project

By JAPAN AIRCRAFT DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION(JADC)

The YXX, next generation medium size of civil aircraft, of which a big amount of demand is expected, had been developed jointly with Boeing Company and JADC in regard to the preliminary work in advance to the substantial launch of development. However, in view of the stability of the aircraft fuel cost and market trend, the project has been frozen since February 1994.

(2)

B777 Civil Aircraft Development Project

By JAPAN AIRCRAFT DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (JADC)

B777, large scale civil aircraft of 350 seats class, of which a great amount of demand is expected, has been developed jointly with Boeing company and JADC. It is a long term and huge project which will continue to operate even at the 21st century, based upon the innovated concept of being powered by two huge turbo fan jet engines. The type Certification of the basic version aircraft was awarded in 1995 and the derivative type of the aircraft is awarded the Type Certification in 1998 as well.

(3)

V2500 Turbo Fan Engine Development Project

By JAPANESE AERO ENGINES CORPORATION (JAEC)

V2500 turbo fan engine installed on the medium size civil aircraft is of high performance, low noise and low emission, and the highest fuel efficiency achieved by adopting the latest advanced technology. It has been developed by IAE consortium of which partners consist of five nations of USA, UK, Germany, Italy and Japan. The development of the derivative V2500A5/D5 of which the growth of the thrust was made, was completed with great success in F.Y. 1995.

(4)

CF34-8/10 Turbo Fan Engine Development Project

By JAPANESE AERO ENGINES CORPORATION

The development of the CF34-8 of which the demand will be expected as the engine to be installed on the advanced regional civil aircraft was launched under the joint international collaboration with General Electric Company and JAEC in 1996. Its thrust growth derivative CF34-10 is also under development since 2000.

(5)

Advanced Subsystems for Aircraft

The development of advanced technologies for aircraft subsystems, aiming at superb performance and innovative cost reduction, are being encouraged. As such subsystems, the international development collaborations of advanced LCD panel display system, hybrid air-conditioning system and regional aircraft landing gear system have been taken up in 1999.

6.Financial Assistance System for International Personal Exchange Program

The system is available for providing the financial assistance to Japanese organizations such as round air ticket, living expenditure, travel fee and overseas travel insurance, in making international exchange for person to be engaged with research and development of aircraft related industries in order to attain the stronger relationship with people concerned with aircraft for the personal and information exchange.
